MY NAME IS
DR. MELODY KELLEY
I’m a lifelong educator, community advocate, and the mother of a public-school student in Sandy Springs. I’m running to serve District 2 on the Sandy Springs City Council, guided by a vision of a more inclusive Sandy Springs, where policy decisions are reflective of community values.
As a chemistry professor at a leading Atlanta university, I’ve dedicated my career to delivering high-quality STEM education to students from underrepresented, underserved, and non-traditional backgrounds. Throughout my career, I’ve learned that an equitable education can only be delivered in an equitable society. I stand ready to deliver that for Sandy Springs.
My call to serve and advocate for families and marginalized groups extends well beyond the classroom and into the Sandy Springs community. I’m a member of Leadership Sandy Springs’ class of 2020 and the Sandy Springs Education Force board of directors. I was recently appointed to the Sandy Springs Charter Review Commission. Through my leadership role with Sandy Springs Together, I’ve cultivated community relationships by partnering with residents, local leaders and organizations to advocate for affordable housing, community-building, and equal access to opportunity.
And proudly, I’m the parent of a public-school student, which has given me the opportunity to serve on the PTO boards of Sandy Springs Charter Middle School and North Springs Charter High School, where I was a standing volunteer in their College and Career Center.
If you’re anything like me, you believe in a brighter future for this city we all love — where young families can grow and thrive — one rooted in creativity, compassion, and connection. But we can only get there if we work together. I hope you’ll stand with me in this campaign for the future of our community.
